Questions Families Ask
Straight answers about cost, coverage and what happens when plans change. If yours is not here, call and ask.
How much does a ride cost?
Ambulatory rides start at $45, which covers the first 5 miles, then $2.50 per mile through mile 25 and $2.00 per mile after that. Wheelchair rides start at $90, which covers the first 3 miles, then $3.50 per mile through mile 25 and $3.00 per mile after that. Round trips take 10% off the return leg. You can see your exact number before you call with our instant fare estimator.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Louisville, Ohio and run all of Stark County every day: Canton, North Canton, Massillon, Alliance, Hartville, Green, Louisville and everything between. We also cover Summit, Portage, Mahoning, Columbiana, Carroll, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties. Longer trips to Cleveland, Akron and Columbus specialists are arranged in advance.
Do you take insurance or Medicaid?
Not yet. We accept private pay and all major cards today. If you are using a Medicaid plan for transportation, call your plan first, then call us and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
Can a family member or caregiver ride along?
Yes. Always, and always free. Nobody should have to sit in a waiting room wondering how their mother is doing.
What kinds of wheelchairs can you take?
Manual wheelchairs, transport chairs, power wheelchairs, heavy duty and bariatric chairs, and mobility scooters. Our van is wheelchair accessible with a ramp, and we can secure two wheelchairs at once. If the rider does not have a chair and needs one for the trip, tell us when you book and we will bring one.
What if the rider uses oxygen?
No problem and no extra charge. Oxygen rides free and we secure the tank properly for the trip. Just let us know when you book so the driver is set up for it.
Do you help with walkers, canes and getting to the door?
Absolutely. Door-through-door assistance is included with every single ride, not sold as an upgrade. That means we come to the door, help the rider out, and walk them in on the other end. Our driver is trained in patient care and transfers.
How far ahead should I book?
Book as far ahead as you like. For next-day rides, 24 hours’ notice is ideal. Standing weekly schedules, like dialysis three times a week, can be set up once and never thought about again.
What are your hours?
Monday through Saturday, 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed Sundays but still take requests, and Sunday rides add 50% of the base fare. Need a ride outside those hours? Ask about our after-hours service at (234) 307-7385.
What if my appointment runs long?
Two ways to handle it, your choice. We can wait on site, which is free for the first 15 minutes and then $15 per 15 minutes. Or you can tell us to go and call when you are done, and we come back. For dialysis and longer treatments most families choose the call-when-done option.
Who is driving, and are they checked out?
Waypoint is owner-operated and veteran-owned. The driver is background-checked through Ohio BCI and the FBI, CPR and first aid certified, HIPAA trained, and holds a clean driving record built over 17 years. You get the same person every time, not whoever the app sent.
How do I pay?
By card when you book. You or a family member can pay from anywhere using our Pay My Fare page, which matters when the person paying lives out of town. Cash is accepted in person. Want the number first? Get an instant estimate.
Do you do long distance trips?
Yes. Cleveland Clinic, Akron, Columbus specialist visits and similar long trips, arranged in advance. Mileage past 25 miles drops to a lower per-mile rate, so the long ones are not priced to punish you.
What if I need to cancel?
More than 24 hours ahead: free. Same-day cancellation: $25. If we arrive and the ride is a no-show, the base fare applies. Life happens, so every customer gets one “oops” waived per year.
Still have a question?
You get the owner, not a call center. Ask anything before you book.
